February is a wrap and with March here, it’s time to pause, take a step back, look back on what we’ve been up to and to see what’s good.
We dove right into 2010 by kicking off New Year’s Eve with an evening of music and dancing at the Englert Civic Theatre in Iowa City, IA. A triple bill with The Uniphonics, Public Property and Euforquestra had over 300 fans ringing in the new year.
Those who braved the cold to come out, were rewarded, as each band took the stage to play their energetic funky sets. After a short break before midnight, the bands returned to the stage to form a new band called “Public Euforia”. It was nice to see the musicians have just as much fun with each other as they did the crowd.
These bands have some great material and I know that in 2010 we should hear some new music from them. Public Property recorded with Frederick “Toots” Hibbert of Toots and the Maytals in 2009 and The Uniphonics are working on releasing an album this year. Surprisingly enough, some of our personal favorite songs from the night were covers. Euforquestra made it lively with Paul Simon’s “Diamonds On The Souls of Her Shoes”, and to see the drummer from The Uniphonics bust out “Web” from the Roots was pure fun. Don’t get us wrong, we loved the originals too, like “Déjà vu” from The Uniphonics.
For the last few weeks, we have been taking our time editing together the five hours of concert footage and would really like to share the experience with The Uniphonics, Public Property and Euforquestra fans. It was a “casual” recording and we are having fun with it. Listening to this concert was a joy but looking at the “dazzling pictures” from the show is also nice. The footage we are posting on YouTube can stream at a rate of up to 720p in HD. If that doesn’t mean much to you maybe you should follow our blog. Next time out, we are going to give you the goods on the Sony HDR-XR200V AVCHD prosumer camcorder we shot this concert on.
